Chennai police ban drone flights for security measures

Chennai police have implemented a four-day ban on the operation of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles from August 14 to 17. The restriction is part of heightened security measures for Independence Day and the scheduled visit of Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan.

The ban, enforced under Section 14(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), extends to remotely operated microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, and hot-air balloons.

Specific red zones have been established for different periods. On August 14 and 15, restrictions will focus on the Secretariat and surrounding areas, including routes used by Chief Minister Vijay. On August 16 and 17, additional restrictions will apply to the travel routes of Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan, covering areas such as Meenambakkam, Guindy, T Nagar, and Arumbakkam.

Police Commissioner Amalraj has ordered increased surveillance and intensified vehicle checks throughout the city to ensure security during this period.
