Indian law enforcement conducts widespread crackdowns on crime and illegal liquor

Law enforcement agencies across several Indian regions have conducted significant operations targeting criminal activity and illegal alcohol trade.

In Delhi, the Excise Department reported that between April and August, 730 people were arrested and 725 FIRs were filed regarding the sale and transportation of illegal liquor. Authorities seized 197 vehicles and approximately 2.20 lakh bottles of illicit liquor. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated the government is maintaining a zero-tolerance policy and developing a new excise policy to improve public safety and regulation.

In Chennai, the Greater Chennai Police launched an overnight crackdown, rounding up 285 individuals with criminal backgrounds. Following orders from Commissioner A Amalraj, 152 individuals were remanded in custody. The operation followed recent high-profile murders in the city.

In Madhya Pradesh, police arrested Shivanjay Rajput following a brief encounter in the Sagar district. Rajput, who was wanted in connection with a spurious liquor tragedy that killed 16 people, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exchange.

In Gujarat, authorities in Bhavnagar busted a duplicate foreign liquor manufacturing unit, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including a railway employee. The operation led to the recovery of liquor quarters, counterfeit stickers, and capping machinery.
