Chennai Police launch special anti-corruption cell to tackle bribery
The Greater Chennai Police has launched a specialized ‘Anti-Corruption Special Cell’ to address allegations of bribery within the force. The initiative aims to increase transparency and strengthen public trust by providing a dedicated channel for citizens to report officers accused of soliciting illegal payments for official duties.
Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj announced that the cell will accept complaints via a dedicated phone number (78717-23000) and WhatsApp. To encourage reporting, the police have guaranteed that the identities of complainants and all shared information will remain strictly confidential.
Commissioner Amalraj noted that while most officers perform their duties honestly, the misconduct of a few can damage the reputation of the entire force. The department stated that all complaints received through the special cell will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken against any officer found guilty of corruption.
