Chennai faces scheduled power outages on June 10‑12 amid maintenance work

Electricity authorities in Chennai have announced scheduled power shutdowns for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. On June 10, power will be suspended from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in areas such as Selvam Nagar, Thanigachalam Nagar, and Periyar Nagar. A similar outage is planned for June 11, affecting neighborhoods including Giruthalapuram, Pallavaram, and Pammal, also from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A third shutdown on June 12 will cover additional localities in the city. Officials say the work on substations and high‑tension lines is intended to improve reliability and cope with rising electricity demand.

Separately, residents have reported frequent night‑time outages in suburbs such as Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Perumbakkam, Arumbakkam and Pudupet. The Electricity Board (Tangedco) attributes these disruptions to transformer faults and damaged cables, intensified by high air‑conditioner usage. In response, the board deployed 95 staff members to the affected substations, ordered replacement of damaged transformers and promised prompt repair of reported faults.

Authorities advise households and businesses to charge essential devices, arrange backup power where possible, and avoid using lifts during the scheduled shutdowns. Power is expected to be fully restored by 2 p.m. each day, with earlier restoration possible if work finishes ahead of schedule.
