Chennai residents protest recurring power outages in Perambur

Residents of Chennai, especially in the Perambur Assembly constituency, staged street demonstrations after repeated night‑time power cuts left neighbourhoods such as Vyasarpadi, Sathiyamoorthy Nagar, JJ Nagar, Sharma Nagar and SA Colony without electricity. Protesters blocked roads, gathered outside electricity board offices and demanded a reliable supply, citing hardship for senior citizens, children, patients and damage to appliances.

Police arrived, spoke with the demonstrators and secured a withdrawal of the blockades after officials promised corrective action. The electricity department said the outages were caused by technical faults and maintenance work and that field teams were deployed to repair the network and strengthen distribution.

A similar protest occurred in Arani, Tiruvallur district, where residents also blocked a highway over unannounced cuts. Police intervened there as well and assured residents that the power‑supply issue would be addressed.
