Chennai road accidents claim five lives in four incidents

Five people died in four separate road accidents across Chennai on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Pattinapakkam, a 21-year-old air-conditioner mechanic named Ajith died after his motorcycle hit a road median near the Ambedkar Memorial. Police report that Ajith was allegedly speeding and under the influence of alcohol; he and his passenger were not wearing helmets. His friend, 18-year-old Abdul Majeed, sustained serious injuries.

In Tondiarpet, a 40-year-old woman named Mariammal died following a collision between her motorcycle and another bike on Vallalar Salai. Her 17-year-old son was also injured in the crash.

A third accident occurred in Chromepet near the GST Road flyover, where a speeding lorry struck a motorcycle. The collision killed 24-year-old nursing graduate J Jamuna. The lorry driver has been detained by authorities.

A fourth incident near Cholavaram involved a car striking a motorcycle on the Minjur-Vandalur bypass road. The crash resulted in the deaths of 24-year-old Lokesh and 17-year-old Lokeshwari. The driver of the car fled the scene and remains at large.
