Chennai secures major foreign investments in tech hubs, R&D and new international university

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay signed MoUs in Chennai with four foreign firms and an Australian university. Swiss insurer Chubb will establish its first Global Capability Centre in the city, creating about 220 high‑skill jobs. German wind‑turbine company Nordex will open an R&D centre projected to employ 1,000 staff. South Korean auto‑parts maker MotiveLink will set up a production plant in Kanchipuram district with a ₹300 crore investment and 1,500 jobs. The University of Western Australia will open its first Indian campus in Vellachery on a ₹125 crore investment, generating more than 200 direct and indirect positions.

The four agreements amount to roughly ₹425 crore in capital and 2,920 new jobs. Vijay said the projects will strengthen Chennai’s role as a global hub for capability centres, research and development, higher education and advanced manufacturing, attracting further foreign investment to Tamil Nadu.
