Chennai to receive new Secretariat, Olympic City, and Motorsports hub

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced a major development plan for Chennai, featuring the construction of a new ₹1,200-crore integrated Assembly and Secretariat complex. The new facility, spanning approximately 20 lakh square feet, is intended to consolidate various government departments into a modern, eco-friendly campus, as the existing administrative site at Fort St George faces space and heritage preservation constraints.

The vision also includes significant sports infrastructure, specifically the establishment of a world-class ‘Tamil Nadu Olympic City’ and a dedicated ‘Motor Sports City’. The Olympic City, to be developed by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, will feature international-standard stadiums, high-performance training centers, and sports medicine research facilities to support athletes for global competitions.

The Motor Sports City aims to establish Chennai as a regional racing hub, with infrastructure designed to host Formula 1, Formula 2, and other major racing events. Actor and professional racer Ajith Kumar has publicly supported the initiative, noting its potential to advance the motorsports ecosystem in India.
