Cheon Ha-ram enters Nonsan training center for military experience

Cheon Ha-ram, floor leader of the Reform Party, has entered the Nonsan Army Training Center for a three-day period to undergo basic military training. As a member of the National Assembly's National Defense Committee, Cheon is the first sitting lawmaker to undergo this specific training process as a recruit.

Cheon, who previously served as a military legal officer approximately 14 years ago, stated that the purpose of this experience is to “update” his understanding of current military conditions. He aims to ensure that defense policies are based on firsthand field experience rather than outdated knowledge. During the training, he will participate in standard recruit activities, including comprehensive individual combat training and a 20km night march.

While acknowledging criticisms that the move may be performative, Cheon emphasized his commitment to minimizing disruption to regular soldiers and officers while observing the living conditions and treatment of troops to inform his legislative work.
