Cheonan church child death prompts abuse homicide probe

An 11‑year‑old boy died after being found unconscious with a high fever at a church in Cheonan, South Korea. He was taken to a hospital but died within three hours. Police have begun investigating three adult church members who were present at the time, examining possible child‑abuse homicide charges.

The National Forensic Service performed an initial autopsy that found no fractures, but noted elevated body temperature, signs of exhaustion and visible injuries, prompting a more detailed examination. Investigators are also reviewing why the child was taken to a distant hospital after initial attempts to find a local bed failed. A witness reported that the child had been tied to a bed, and the police are assessing that testimony as part of the abuse inquiry.
