Cheongju City to launch home repair support for seniors

Cheongju City has announced the launch of the ‘Cheongju Elderly Just Do It’ project, starting this October, to address small-scale household repairs and inconveniences for senior citizens. The pilot program will initially target 10,700 low-income households with residents aged 65 and older, covering 35 specific repair items.

Supported services include 12 items in safety and convenience (such as replacing lights and fire alarms), 10 items for windows and doors (such as repairing insect screens and door handles), 8 items for bathrooms (such as faucet replacement), and 5 items for kitchens (such as adjusting cabinet hinges). While the service itself is free, residents are responsible for the cost of repair materials.

The Cheongju Housing Welfare Center will oversee the project, collaborating with various local management offices and support centers to ensure professional and rapid execution. Beyond simple repairs, the initiative aims to identify households in housing crises and connect them with necessary welfare services. Following the pilot phase, the city plans to expand eligibility to all seniors aged 65 and older, regardless of income level, starting in 2027.
