Cheongsong County Council addresses sludge leak and environmental management

The Cheongsong County Council has concluded its 292nd extraordinary session, shifting focus toward preparations for the 2026 administrative audit scheduled for November. During the session, the council deliberated and passed 15 items, including ordinances related to supporting the local living population and managing parking facilities.

A significant portion of the session addressed a recent sludge leak from a pig farm housing approximately 2,700 animals near Bohyeoncheon Stream in Andeok-myeon. While the company attributed the incident to mechanical malfunction, Vice Chairman Park Shin-young called for a thorough investigation into the actual cause and its environmental impact on soil and river water.

Vice Chairman Park urged the county to move beyond reactive measures and implement a proactive environmental management system. Proposed actions include conducting special inspections of all livestock facilities in the region, establishing rapid response systems for resident complaints, and supporting odor reduction measures to ensure coexistence between livestock farmers and local residents.
