Chery unveils Volt-Dragon 1.44 MW ultra-fast charging system
Chery has introduced Volt-Dragon, a new megawatt-level charging technology capable of a peak power of 1.44 MW. The system aims to provide 500 km of driving range in just five minutes of charging. Under specific conditions, the technology can charge a battery from 10% to 97% capacity in approximately 6 minutes and 50 seconds.
The system utilizes next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors to achieve a grid-to-plug efficiency of 96.5%. To manage the intense heat generated during high-power charging, Chery has implemented immersion liquid cooling technology. Additionally, the system features lightweight cables and connectors weighing roughly 2 kg, with operating noise levels kept below 50 dBA.
Volt-Dragon is supported by CheryMind, a large language model designed to assist with power management and thermal prediction. The technology also supports Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities, allowing electric vehicles to return energy to the local power grid. Chery plans to launch 100 pilot stations across 10 Chinese cities, with a long-term goal of deploying over 20,000 Volt-Dragon charging points globally by 2029.
In a separate social responsibility initiative, Chery announced it has allocated $12 million to UNICEF educational programs across six countries, including China, Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico, Turkey, and Vietnam.
