Chery and Jaguar Land Rover launch Freelander 8 SUV
The Freelander brand has returned via a new SUV, the Freelander 8, produced by a standalone brand established through a collaboration between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. The model has seen significant initial interest in China, reportedly securing over 10,000 orders within its first 48 hours of availability.
The Freelander 8 is a range-extended electric vehicle featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that serves as a generator for a 60.3kWh CATL battery. The dual-motor system produces a combined 610kW and 813Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds. It utilizes an 800-volt architecture capable of a 6C charging rate, which can charge the battery from 20 to 80 per cent in approximately 12 minutes.
Designed with off-road capabilities, the SUV includes three differential locks and an all-terrain system co-developed with Huawei. The vehicle measures 5118mm in length and features rear-wheel steering with 10 degrees of articulation for a crab-walk function. Pricing in China starts at 339,900 yuan, with a limited First Edition model available for 449,900 yuan.
