Chery expands global R&D and begins Chery Q deliveries in Indonesia
Chery is implementing a global expansion strategy focused on enhancing research and development (R&D) and increasing local manufacturing. During the Chery International User Summit 2026 in Wuhu, China, Executive Vice President Zhang Guibing announced plans to establish 26 local R&D centers worldwide, with 16 already operational. This initiative aims to help the company adapt products to local market characteristics, including infrastructure, consumer preferences, and regulations.
In addition to R&D, Chery aims to increase its local manufacturing share to 50 percent by the end of this year, with a target of 60 percent in the future.
In Indonesia, Chery has officially commenced the delivery of the Chery Q electric vehicle. The first symbolic handover took place in Jakarta on October 23, 2026. To assist customers during the distribution process, the company introduced the ‘Track My Chery Q’ feature, allowing buyers to monitor their vehicle's status online. The Chery Q features a 42.7 kWh battery with a range of up to 400 kilometers (NEDC) and supports DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in approximately 16.5 minutes.
