Chery expands Spanish production with Ebro plant and new Rely P3X pickup

Chinese automaker Chery has deepened its footprint in Spain by reviving the former Nissan factory in Barcelona under the Ebro brand. The €150 million investment transformed the 309,000‑m² complex with a new body‑in‑white line, paint shop and final‑assembly stations, employing more than 200 industrial robots to produce complete vehicles domestically, from body welding to software programming.

At the same time, Chery unveiled the Rely P3X, a plug‑in hybrid diesel pickup delivering 476 hp (350 kW) and 800 Nm of torque, with an electric‑only range of around 100 km. The model targets the midsize pickup segment, offering a 1,000 kg payload, 3,500 kg braked towing capacity and a premium cabin with extensive technology, aiming to compete with the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

Together, the expanded Barcelona plant and the launch of the high‑performance P3X illustrate Chery’s strategy to become one of the world’s largest car manufacturers by coupling Chinese technology with localized, full‑process vehicle production in Europe.
