Chery explores partnerships with US automakers to enter market

Chery Group Vice-President Charlie Zhang has stated that the company is open to various options to enter the United States market, including potential collaborations with American automobile manufacturers. Speaking from the company's headquarters in Wuhu, Zhang indicated that Chery is seeking ways to navigate US trade barriers and political concerns regarding Chinese technology.

To address security concerns raised by the US government and political figures regarding data collection, Zhang suggested that the company could technically develop vehicles that do not rely on Chinese hardware or software. This move comes as Chery prepares for a brand launch in Canada early next year.

In a separate development regarding Chinese automotive interests in Europe, manufacturers have expressed concern that upcoming elections in Spain could impact government subsidies. Current incentives under the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Transformation of the Electric and Connected Vehicle (PERTE VEC) have supported projects involving companies like Ebro and Chery in Barcelona, but industry sources fear a change in government could shift these policies following pressure from European manufacturers and Brussels.
