Chery Group launches Lepas L8 plug‑in hybrid SUV in the United Kingdom

Chery Group introduced its fourth automotive brand, Lepas, to the British market with the debut of the Lepas L8 plug‑in hybrid SUV. The L8 offers an electric‑only range of up to 56 miles and a combined total range of about 745 miles, powered by Chery's Super Hybrid System that pairs a turbocharged 1.5‑litre petrol engine with an 18.4 kWh battery. Designed as a premium yet affordable alternative to models such as the BMW X5 and Audi Q5, the vehicle features distinctive "leopard‑eye" LED headlights, a diamond‑mesh grille, a flat floor interior, generous headroom, a panoramic sunroof and soft‑touch materials.

The launch follows Chery's rapid growth in the UK, where it delivered 12,117 vehicles in the previous month, outselling Ford and securing a market share that places a Chery‑built car in one of every eight new registrations. Sister brands Jaecoo and Omoda already rank among the top 25 manufacturers in Britain. Reviewers noted the L8's styling as comparable to high‑street fashion and praised its spacious cabin. Smaller Lepas models (L4 and L6) are slated for release later in the year.
