Chery invests $1.5 billion in solid-state batteries and hits 20 million sales

Chery has announced plans to begin vehicle verification of solid-state electrolyte cells in 2027. The company, led by President Yin Tongyue, has committed approximately 10 billion yuan (roughly $1.5 billion) to research and development for this technology. The Exeed ES8, a premium model from the group, is slated to serve as the initial test vehicle for these road trials.

In tandem with its technological advancements, Chery has reached a major commercial milestone, surpassing 20 million total vehicle sales globally. The company currently operates in over 130 countries and regions, with international markets accounting for approximately 35% of its customer base. Recent data shows significant export growth, including a 71.5% increase in exports during the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year.
