Freelander 8 SUV launches in China via Chery-JLR joint venture

The Freelander brand, a new standalone entity created through a joint venture between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, has launched pre-orders for its first model, the Freelander 8, in China. Within the first 48 hours of availability, the vehicle reportedly secured over 10,000 pre-orders.

The Freelander 8 is a large, three-row range-extended electric SUV measuring over 5.1 meters in length. It utilizes a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine acting as a generator to support dual electric motors, producing a combined 610kW (approximately 818 hp) and 813Nm of torque. This powertrain allows for a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds. The vehicle features an 800V architecture and a 60.3kWh CATL battery, offering a CLTC-rated electric range of 310km and 6C charging capabilities that can charge from 20% to 80% in 12 minutes.

Technological features include a 46.3-inch panoramic display, a 15.6-inch central screen, and the integration of Huawei Qiankun Smart Driving ADS 5. The interior options include five-seat and six-seat configurations, with high-end versions featuring zero-gravity seats and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chips. Pricing in China starts at 339,900 yuan, with a limited First Edition priced at 449,900 yuan.
