Chery launches Stockman diesel‑electric pickup for Europe and Australia

Chinese automaker Chery introduced the Stockman, a plug‑in hybrid pickup that pairs a 2.5‑litre diesel engine (210 kW/282 hp) with powerful electric motors for a combined system output of 350 kW (476 hp) and up to 800 Nm of torque. The vehicle features four‑wheel drive, multiple differential locks, a payload capacity of around one tonne and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes. Its battery, located at the rear, gives an electric‑only range of 100 km according to Chinese testing and up to 170 km under Australian NEDC standards.

The Stockman is aimed at the mid‑size pickup segment, competing with models such as the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. Chery plans to launch the model first in Australia, one of the world’s largest pickup markets, and later introduce it to Europe, with an estimated entry price of €35,000. European rollout is expected in the third quarter of 2024, ahead of a broader launch in Germany slated for early 2027. The hybrid architecture is promoted as delivering about a 20% reduction in emissions compared with conventional diesel pickups, with a claimed fuel consumption of 6.5 L/100 km.
