Chery partners with Aumovio to supply European vehicle components from Romania

Chinese automaker Chery has signed an agreement with Aumovio, formerly the automotive division of Continental, to supply components for vehicles produced in Europe. As part of Chery’s strategy to expand its European production and localize its supply chain, the first components will be manufactured at Aumovio’s facility in Timișoara, Romania.

The initial focus of the partnership involves Airbag Control Units (ACU), which are electronic units that manage airbag deployment based on sensor data. Aumovio maintains production sites in Timișoara and Sibiu, along with four research and development centers in Romania.

While the two companies have collaborated since 1999, primarily supplying systems to the Chinese market, this new agreement shifts a portion of their partnership to the European continent. This move supports Chery’s transition from exporting vehicles manufactured in China to establishing a more localized production model within Europe.
