Chery plans pilot production for Rhinoceros S solid-state batteries by 2027
Chery has announced plans to launch a pilot production line for its Rhinoceros S solid-state battery by 2027. The announcement was made during the Chery Global Innovation Conference 2026.
The Rhinoceros S battery is specified to have an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and an operational temperature range of -40 to 100 degrees Celsius. The company also reported successful internal thermal testing at 200 degrees Celsius, though specific details regarding test duration and charge levels were not disclosed.
This pilot production milestone is a developmental step toward future vehicle integration. While previous statements suggested vehicle-level testing could begin in 2027, the company clarified that pilot manufacturing is distinct from mass production or customer deliveries. Chery is pursuing different technological approaches, including a separate development path targeting 600 Wh/kg energy density using in-situ polymerization electrolytes.
