Chery's Lepas L6 electric SUV to debut in Australia in late 2026

China's Chery Group is introducing a new sub‑brand, Lepas, with the L6 medium‑size electric SUV slated for the Australian market in the fourth quarter of 2026. The L6 will be equipped with a single front‑axle electric motor delivering 160 kW (215 hp) and 275 Nm of torque, paired with a 65 kWh battery that the manufacturer claims provides a combined range of about 450 km (no specific test cycle disclosed). Expected specifications include a 12.3‑inch vertical infotainment screen, eight‑speaker Sony audio, panoramic roof and seven airbags; pricing is projected to be around AU$40,000, positioning it against models such as the BYD Atto 3 and Geely EX5.

The launch will coincide with Lepas' brand debut in Australia, alongside the larger L8 plug‑in hybrid SUV and a smaller L4 electric SUV. Lepas replaces earlier Chery‑affiliated brands Omoda and Jaecoo for export markets, and the rollout is part of Chery’s broader export strategy that saw a 17.4 % rise in shipments to 1.34 million units last year.
