Chess events enliven public spaces in Salvador and João Pessoa

In Salvador, the community group Ô Rei – Clube de Xadrez and the Primeira Liga de Xadrez do Lobato have organized a series of public‑space chess sessions throughout August, occupying libraries, museums, cinemas and plazas across the city. The program includes scheduled games at locations such as Biblioteca Anísio Teixeira, Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Bahia and Cine Glauber Rocha, and will continue with a partnership at the Sindicato dos Bancários gym.

Meanwhile, in João Pessoa, the Estação Cabo Branco – Ciência, Cultura e Artes will host the II Torneio Infantil de Xadrez da Ponta do Seixas on 8 August. Registrations are open until 7 August, with a fee of R$ 30 (half‑price for public‑school students and people with disabilities). The tournament, organized with the Clube de Xadrez do Seixas and the Federação Paraibana de Xadrez, aims to raise funds to restore the damaged giant chess piece at the station. Two national masters, Artur Olinto and Daniel Viana, will conduct simultaneous rapid‑play sessions for children under 14.
