Chess events expand in Brazil with festivals and free courses

Chess activities are expanding in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina and São Paulo. In Joaçaba, the second edition of the Scherer Chess Festival is hosting the Scherer Chess Master tournament. This high-level competition features ten elite players from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, including Grandmasters and International Masters, competing at the Teatro Alfredo Sigwalt.

Simultaneously, the Universidade Aberta do Brasil (UAB) in Bragança Paulista has opened registrations for a free chess course for adults. The program aims to democratize access to intellectual activities, teaching basic movements, strategies, and rules through weekly in-person classes.
