Chesterton Academy of Saint Finbar expands to add middle school grades in Charleston

Chesterton Academy of Saint Finbar in Charleston, South Carolina, has added a Prep School serving seventh‑ and eighth‑grade students alongside its existing ninth‑grade class. The academy plans to further extend its grade range to include sixth through tenth grades by the 2027‑2028 academic year as enrollment for 2026‑2027 approaches capacity.

Headmistress Dr. Michele McCoy said the school’s growth reflects strong demand for its classical Catholic education, which emphasizes intellect, character and spirituality. The academy, located near the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, aims to form “joyful saints” and “leader saints” prepared for lifelong service.

The expansion is part of a broader effort to broaden academic offerings, introduce new leadership, and maintain the school’s commitment to a liberal‑arts curriculum rooted in truth, beauty and goodness.
