Cheteshwar Pujara backs Sanju Samson for India T20I series

Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed support for Sanju Samson ahead of the second T20I against the West Indies. Pujara argued that Samson’s place in the playing XI should not be questioned, citing his match-winning performances during the 2026 T20 World Cup and his status as an experienced player.

Pujara suggested that Samson is currently at the peak of his career and should be given the opportunity to open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma. He emphasized that team management should back established players even after a few poor performances to allow them to play their natural game.

Regarding young prospect Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Pujara advised that the player should wait for the right opportunity and benefit from being part of the squad to gain experience, noting that injuries or future matches will eventually provide him with a chance to debut.
