Chetumal feminist blockade on Insurgentes avenue over missing persons case

Feminist collectives Xtabay and Madres Buscadoras blocked both directions of Insurgentes Avenue near the CBTA No. 11 in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, beginning around 8 a.m. The protest, aimed at pressuring the state prosecutor to advance investigations of women subjected to violence and of missing persons, caused a traffic jam extending over two kilometres and forced drivers to use alternate routes.

State officials Subsecretary of Government Nabil Eljure Terrazas and Subsecretary of Human Rights María Hadad met the demonstrators, represented by activist Ariadne Song, and agreed to lift the blockade after arranging a meeting with State Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar to review the demands and progress on the cases. The protesters continue a sit‑in that began the previous week in front of the Vice‑prosecutor’s office, accusing authorities of delays, corruption and lack of interest in resolving the investigations.
