Chetumal launches MOBI social‑fare credentialing for students, seniors and disabled
On 6 July 2024 the Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo (IMOVEQROO) began the first stage of credentialing for the new MOBI public‑transport system in Chetumal. The program, announced by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, offers a free or discounted fare to more than 12 000 students, senior citizens and people with disabilities. Disabled riders travel at no cost, while students and seniors pay a reduced 10 pesos per ride using a personalized MOBI credential.
Temporary service modules operate from 6 to 24 July at the DIF Quintana Roo office, the Centro de Rehabilitación Integral de Quintana Roo, Plaza Manatí and the MOBI Operations Center, with permanent locations at Plaza Manatí and the Operations Center. The card is issued free of charge, can be recharged from 10 pesos at OXXO, SIX, Dunosusa and Super Willys outlets, and is usable via the MOBI app, contactless cards or compatible bank cards. The state aims to credential 40 000 students, 15 000 seniors and 4 500 disabled persons by the end of 2027.
