Chetumal police detained for alleged forced disappearance of three youths

Four police officers in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, have been detained for their alleged involvement in the forced disappearance of three young men on August 29. The suspects include three municipal officers from Othón P. Blanco and one officer from the State Secretariat of Citizen Security.

According to investigations by the State Attorney General's Office, the officers allegedly intercepted one of the victims in a vehicle and subsequently handed them over to a criminal group at Bahía Boulevard. While two of the victims were released later that same night, the third individual was found on August 31 with visible injuries from physical assault. All three victims are reported to be out of danger.

The detained officers face charges of forced disappearance, abuse of authority, and vehicle theft. State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar stated that if found responsible, the accused could face more than 50 years in prison. The suspects currently remain in preventive detention as the investigation continues.
