Chevrolet and Volkswagen vie for Brazil's R$140,000 SUV market

In Brazil's entry‑level SUV segment, the Volkswagen Tera High and the Chevrolet Sonic RS are priced almost identical, at R$141,890 and R$140,990 respectively. The VW Tera, launched in mid‑2025, has already sold 100,000 units and briefly led retail registrations. Chevrolet introduced the Sonic RS in May 2024, aiming to capture market share from the Tera and competitors such as the Fiat Pulse.

Separately, the Chevrolet Cruze 2013 remains a popular used midsize sedan in Brazil. Produced from 2011 to 2024 with over 200,000 units sold, the model offers a 1.8‑litre gasoline engine delivering 144 hp, spacious interior dimensions of 4.60 m length, and fuel consumption around 8.6 km/L on gasoline in the city. It is praised for comfort but noted for firm suspension and modest acoustic insulation.
