Chevrolet launches ethanol‑only Onix Eco in Brazil

General Motors announced the 2027 Chevrolet Onix lineup in Brazil, adding an ethanol‑only version called the Onix Eco. The hatchback and sedan are priced at R$ 103,190 and R$ 106,990 respectively, both equipped with a 1.0‑L turbo engine, automatic transmission and eligibility for tax incentives under the federal Programa Mover.

The Onix Eco runs solely on ethanol after a software calibration; no hardware changes were required. Chevrolet claims an improved fuel economy of 11.1 km/l (0.2 km/l better than the flex version) and marginal performance gains, with 0‑100 km/h in 10.5 seconds. The broader Onix range now includes 14 variants, featuring rear‑view cameras, translucent tail‑lights on the hatch, eight years of free OnStar Basics connectivity, embedded Wi‑Fi and a three‑month Protect service trial.

This marks the return of a fully ethanol‑powered Chevrolet model after a 25‑year gap—its predecessor being the Astra sedan for taxi fleets—aligned with Brazil’s push for renewable‑fuel vehicles.
