Chevron and Egypt announce positive gas results at Narjis 2 well

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Chevron have announced positive results from drilling the Narjis 2 natural gas well in the Mediterranean Sea. The drilling operations, which began in May, were conducted in cooperation with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and other partners.

The results confirm the extension of gas-bearing layers previously identified in the Narjis 1 well and reveal an additional gas-bearing layer with favorable characteristics. The well reached a final depth of over 5,000 meters, with evaluations showing gas-bearing layers with a net thickness of 35 meters.

These findings support ongoing efforts to evaluate the Narjis discovery, originally made in 2022, and to study opportunities for converting the site into a commercial production project. This initiative aligns with Egypt's strategy to accelerate the development of undeveloped discoveries and boost domestic natural gas supplies.

Chevron operates the Narjis area in partnership with Italy's Eni, the UAE's Mubadala Energy, and Egypt's Tharwa Petroleum.
