Chevron and U.S. energy firms nearing major Venezuela investment deals
Major American energy companies, led by Chevron, are nearing multi-billion dollar investment agreements to expand operations in Venezuela. Chevron is reportedly looking to add two heavy crude oil fields to its existing portfolio, where it already maintains three joint ventures with the state-owned oil company PdVSA.
Alongside Chevron, Halliburton is in discussions to provide specialized equipment and services to Venezuelan oil producers. Industry executives are expected to gather in Caracas next week to sign production agreements. This movement follows efforts by the Trump administration to encourage U.S. investment in the country to bolster Western Hemisphere oil production.
Negotiations between the U.S. government and Venezuelan leadership may involve long-term interests, including potential leases lasting up to 100 years. While the expansion represents a significant shift, analysts note that revitalizing Venezuela's production will require massive investment to overcome degraded infrastructure and power shortages.
