Chevron to invest $7 billion in Venezuela to double oil production

Chevron and other global energy firms have entered into multibillion-dollar agreements to expand oil production in Venezuela. Chevron has announced plans to invest over $7 billion over the next five years, aiming to more than double its production to approximately 600,000 barrels per day. As part of these deals, Chevron's joint venture, Petroindependencia, has been granted rights to develop the Carabobo-1 and Carabobo-2-South-A areas within the Orinoco Belt.

These developments are part of a broader US-Venezuela energy framework. A separate agreement provides US interests access to 17 Venezuelan oilfields, representing roughly 20% of the nation's total reserves. The US Pentagon is reportedly set to take a 35% passive stake in North American Blue Energy Partners, an independent operator, through the Office of Strategic Capital. Additionally, Italian firm Eni has secured exclusive rights to explore the Junin 5 oilfield, and GE Vernova has signed a deal to rehabilitate Venezuela's national electrical system.

The agreements have drawn both praise from US officials, who view them as catalysts for economic transformation, and criticism from local political sectors regarding national sovereignty and the involvement of specific business intermediaries.
