Venezuela signs major oil deals with US and international firms

Venezuela is implementing a series of major energy agreements aimed at increasing oil production to over 1.5 million barrels per day. A central component of this strategy is a binational deal with the United States involving 17 oil fields containing approximately 65 billion barrels of reserves. Key international players are participating in this revitalization, including Chevron, which has committed over $7 billion in investment, and Eni, which has secured exclusive operation of the Junín 5 field for 25 years. Additionally, the Colombian company Geopark has signed a contract with PDVSA for activities in the Baré Block.

Amidst these economic developments, Venezuela is facing significant electrical instability. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has alleged that recent power outages, particularly in the Zulia region, were caused by the deliberate sabotage of gas valves at thermoelectric plants. She suggested these actions were retaliatory measures against the new international oil agreements. Conversely, opposition leaders have rejected these claims, attributing the grid's deterioration to systemic corruption and a lack of maintenance under the current administration. To address these infrastructure issues, an agreement with GE Vernova aims to stabilize the electrical grid within the next six to twelve months.
