SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won appeals 944 billion won divorce settlement
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has filed a re-appeal to the Supreme Court regarding a property division ruling in his divorce from Roh Soh-yeong, director of Nabi Art Center. The Seoul High Court previously ordered Chey to pay Roh 944 billion won in cash, setting a division ratio of approximately 33.3% for Roh and 66.6% for Chey.
The legal dispute escalated after Chey's team proposed a settlement involving a combination of cash and SK shares to avoid the massive liquidity requirement and potential negative impacts on SK Group's stock price and corporate governance. However, Roh insisted on receiving the full amount in cash as mandated by the court.
Chey's legal representatives filed the appeal just one minute before the deadline. The re-appeal aims to challenge the legal basis for the division ratio and the calculation method used for the stock valuation. Additionally, the move allows Chey to defer the payment of significant daily late interest, estimated at approximately 130 million won per day, while seeking further time to arrange funds or negotiate alternative payment methods.
