Chey Tae-won appeals asset division ruling to Supreme Court

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has filed a final appeal with the Supreme Court regarding his divorce asset division lawsuit with Roh So-young, director of Art Center Nabi.

Following a high court ruling in July that ordered Chey to pay 944 billion won in asset division, Chey has opted to contest only 244 billion won of that amount. He has accepted the remaining 700 billion won to expedite the resolution of the long-standing legal dispute. Consequently, the filing fee (stamp duty) paid for the appeal was reduced to approximately 850 million won.

The core legal disputes for the Supreme Court's review include whether shares in SK Siltron, acquired in 2017 after the breakdown of the marriage, should be included in the divisible assets. Additionally, the court will examine the appropriateness of the 33.3% contribution rate assigned to Roh, specifically regarding how the court handled the exclusion of former President Roh Tae-woo's slush funds from the calculation.

The case was previously remanded to the high court by the Supreme Court last year after it ruled that illegal slush funds could not be credited as part of Roh's contribution to the marital assets.
