Chhagan Bhujbal opposes non-Kunbi entry into OBC category

Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has stated that the Maratha and Kunbi communities are distinct. He emphasized that while the Kunbi community legally falls under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, he opposes any attempt by non-Kunbis to enter the OBC category through “backdoor” means.

Bhujbal referenced a Supreme Court ruling stating that the Maratha community is not classified as backward. He noted that while those who are legally Kunbi remain entitled to their status, any improper infiltration into the OBC quota must be resisted to protect existing reservation benefits. He encouraged those with grievances to seek recourse through the High Court or Supreme Court, asserting that while democratic protests are permitted, officials and ministers should not work under undue pressure.
