Chhatra Dal leader arrested after shooting at BNP leader's home

Police have arrested two individuals, including a Chhatra Dal leader, in connection with a shooting at the residence of S M Reza Chowdhury Selim, the convener of Demra Thana BNP. The attack occurred in the early hours of August 28 in the Sarulia area of Demra, where several individuals arrived on motorcycles and opened fire, breaking a window of the house. No casualties were reported.

Authorities identified Md. Masud Rana, known as ‘Kaila Masud’, the convener of Demra Thana Chhatra Dal, as a key figure allegedly leading a group of eight people in the attack. Following an investigation and information provided by an initial detainee named Tapas, police conducted an operation in the Rupganj area of Narayanganj, resulting in the arrest of Masud Rana and Tariqul Islam.

During the operation, police recovered two pistols, two magazines, five rounds of ammunition, one single-barrel shotgun, and eight cartridges. Preliminary investigations suggest the motive may involve disputes over local extortion and conflicts regarding the prevention of drug sales. Police are continuing their investigation to identify other participants involved in the incident.
