Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar cliff tragedy: Family dispute suspected

Three members of a family died following a tragic incident at a cliff in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, on August 21. Preliminary investigations by police suggest a long-standing family dispute was the primary trigger for the event, creating significant household stress over the preceding two to three months.

The tragedy began when a young man, identified as Kunal Chandgude, arrived at the edge of a cliff near Tisgaon and announced his intention to commit suicide. Despite nearly two hours of negotiations by the police and fire brigade, the situation escalated when his father, Murlidhar Chandgude, attempted to grab him. The father lost his balance and fell, and his mother, Sangita Chandgude, subsequently jumped from the cliff.

While initial reports had suggested a dispute over an iPhone or its payments, senior police official DCP Pankaj Atulkar stated that investigators are focusing on the broader atmosphere of family conflict. The investigation remains active as authorities seek to uncover the specific root causes of the incident.
