Chhattisgarh government implements agricultural support and weather alerts

The Chhattisgarh state government, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has announced significant measures to support the agricultural sector. For the 2026-27 Kharif marketing year, paddy procurement is scheduled to begin on November 15 at a rate of 3,100 rupees per quintal. The government plans to purchase paddy from over 2.75 million farmers, with a limit of 21 quintals per acre. To enhance transparency, the state will utilize digital crop surveys and biometric-based procurement. Additionally, 360 new procurement centers have been established, bringing the total to 3,100 centers.

In the Surguja district, the Agricultural Meteorology Unit has issued weather warnings for the period of October 31 to November 4. Forecasts indicate cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall of 10 to 15 mm daily. There is a risk of lightning strikes on October 31, November 1, and November 3, along with strong winds expected on November 3. Farmers are advised to secure harvested crops in dry, covered locations and avoid harvesting or drying grain during rainfall to prevent damage and fungal diseases.
