Chhattisgarh issued red alert for heavy rainfall and cyclone impact

The Raipur Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the Bastar division in Chhattisgarh due to the expected impact of Cyclone Arnab. A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is projected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm, with potential landfall between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam on October 28.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds are anticipated across the state. The Bastar, Dantewada, and Sukma districts are under a red alert for October 28, with rainfall potentially exceeding 204 mm in some areas. Wind speeds in these regions could reach between 60 and 90 km/h, posing risks of falling trees, power poles, landslides, and flooding.

An orange alert has been issued for several other districts, including Raipur and Durg. The weather system is expected to affect northwestern districts such as Rajnandgaon and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki on October 29, before gradually weakening. Authorities have advised residents in high-risk areas to remain indoors and follow government advisories.
