Chhattisgarh issued red alert for heavy rainfall and lightning

The meteorological department has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Chhattisgarh, particularly in the southern regions. This weather shift is attributed to a depression in the Bay of Bengal moving in a west-northwest direction.

Forecasts indicate intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds through late September. While some areas may experience moderate rain, specific districts face warnings for extremely heavy downpours and lightning strikes. Authorities have advised residents to avoid open spaces, trees, and electrical poles during storms to mitigate the risk of lightning.

Recent weather activity has already resulted in fatalities, with four reported deaths due to lightning strikes in the Balod, Kanker, and Bemetara districts.
