Chiaki Tone warns against online harassment of professional baseball players

Former professional baseball player Chiaki Tone has raised concerns regarding the ongoing issue of online harassment and defamation directed at athletes. Speaking via social media, Tone addressed the trend of players receiving abusive direct messages and derogatory comments on platforms such as Yahoo News.

Tone emphasized that while criticism of a player's performance is a natural part of professional sports, there is a distinct line between technical critique and personal attacks. He noted that comments attacking a player's character or telling them to quit the sport constitute a different, more harmful category of behavior that should not be excused by the claim that the comments are not directed personally to the individual.
