Chiang Mai police increase school security after student shooting threats

Police in Chiang Mai, Thailand, have increased security at schools following a shooting threat made by students at Montfort College. The threat was posted in a LINE group chat titled ‘Montfort Dark Side’ on August 10, where two male students allegedly planned an attack for the following morning at 10:00 AM.

The students claimed they were targeting specific Grade 12 classrooms in response to alleged bullying. One student reportedly shared an image of a handgun. The messages caused widespread panic among parents, some of whom rushed to collect their children from the campus.

In response, Mae Ping Police Station deployed officers to the school to conduct inspections and bag checks. Chiang Mai Provincial Police have identified the students involved and are investigating the matter. Authorities have also instructed local police stations to heighten surveillance around schools and are conducting ‘Run, Hide, Fight’ emergency response training for students and staff.
