Chiang Rai develops as remote work hub and tourism destination

Chiang Rai is experiencing diverse developments across its tourism, sports, and residential sectors. The province is emerging as a practical hub for remote workers and digital nomads due to lower living costs compared to Chiang Mai and Bangkok, offering affordable housing and a calmer lifestyle.

In the tourism sector, officials from southern Thailand recently visited Karen Ruammit Village in the Mae Yao district to support its recovery. The village is working to rebuild its industry following setbacks from the pandemic, 2024 floods, and environmental concerns regarding the Kok River.

Additionally, the province is hosting a major four-star table tennis championship at the Chiang Rai City Municipality Conference Center. The tournament features nearly one thousand athletes competing for a 300,000 baht prize pool, providing an economic boost to local businesses.

For expatriates, border towns like Mae Sai offer affordable living options near the Myanmar border, though residents must navigate variable security conditions at the Tachileik crossing and limited local services.
