Chiang Rai medical instructor under investigation after fatal crash kills two students
A fatal car accident in Chiang Rai, Thailand, has resulted in the deaths of two first-year law students from Mae Fah Luang University. The collision occurred around 8:25 PM on August 25 at the Nang Lae intersection on Phahonyothin Road.
Police investigations indicate that Kamol Ratchakhom, a 32-year-old medical instructor and Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Division at Mae Fah Luang University, was driving a red MG5 sedan. Witnesses reported that the motorcycle, carrying three female students, had stopped at a red light when the sedan allegedly changed lanes and drove through the light, striking the vehicle.
The victims were identified as 19-year-old Nichapha Promtong and 18-year-old Alfarin Gazo, both of whom succumbed to their injuries. A third student, 18-year-old Phatchareeporn Nakhonchan, sustained serious leg injuries and remains hospitalized.
While an initial alcohol test conducted by the Ban Du Police Station showed no alcohol in Ratchakhom’s system, investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and noting a lack of braking or skid marks from the sedan at the scene.
