Chiang Rai monk arrested for stealing temple audio equipment
A 52-year-old monk has been arrested in Chiang Rai, Thailand, for stealing audio equipment from the Sri Kham Temple in the Mae Chan district. Police discovered the stolen items, which included a speaker, a sound amplifier, and three microphones, hidden inside the man's private living quarters (kuti).
The suspect confessed to taking the items from the abbot’s storage area without permission. Following the confession, senior Buddhist officials conducted a formal defrocking ceremony to strip him of his monk status. He is currently in legal custody and faces theft charges.
